Quick Take: Biden's border war with Texas
Biden's border bill is DOA; what the recent Supreme Court Decision did and didn't say, how Texas Responded and Biden's next move
We get results! Thanks to many of you for letting your congressmen and senators know the Biden Border Deal was “no deal” at all. It would codify - that means write into law - around two million illegal Biden “parolees” (catch and release) annually; it would not reinstate Remain in Mexico; and it would not build another inch of wall. In fact, all the Border Deal would do is cement in current outrages while giving Biden a fig leaf of having “done something” prior to the November election - while binding the hands of President Trump, should he win in November. This bill is a lose-lose-lose for the American people and for Republicans (though I repeat myself). [Note: previously I’d said this was a “lose twice” scenario - I was mistaken, it’s a lose three times scenario, in that it would tie a future president’s hands as well]
And the Republicans almost fell for it (the Romney wing of the party actually did). Terrified of being “blamed” for their intransigence, Republicans take counsel of their worst angels - and end up getting beaten with the media stick anyway. Mike Johnson found his spine and has said the bill is DOA in the House. Thank God. But keep an eye on the Speaker - his instinct to seek a deal is not a good thing.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court decided to lift an injunction imposed by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals that prevented Border Patrol agents from removing wire installed by Texas - for now. The wire removal ban was imposed temporarily while the underlying case for Texas self-defense is fast-tracked and scheduled for oral arguments February 7th. So while that case proceeds, the 5th Circuit told the feds “leave the wire alone” - the Supreme Court overruled - “nah, while the case proceeds, the feds can remove the wire”. That’s all the decision says. It does not say Texas cannot lay more wire, or must permit the feds access to the wire. But regardless of which way the underlying case results, we can expect to see it appealed to the Supreme Court.
Texas reads the decision correctly - it’s unfortunate, but they will stand their ground for now, because they can. The Supreme Court didn’t say Texas can’t lay wire, nor did it say Texas must enable the feds in removing it. So Texas is laying more wire, while the feds, if they can get to the wire, have authority to remove it.
So where is this headed next? If you guessed curtailing Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) exports, you’re the winner! Biden’s insolent, petulant advisors cast about for a truly petty demonstration of retribution and settled on a “temporary pause” on pending LNG exports. Texas is the nation’s largest LNG exporter and the fourth largest in the world. But if Texas can’t export the gas, does it just sit unused? I’ll bet there’s domestic market that will soak up the excess, especially during this cold winter. So crank up your thermostat (if you burn gas) and do your part to help Texas in their border fight!
Whatever happens going forward, the Republicans must stand united against Biden. Biden could literally “magic” the border crisis away with the same pen he used to cause it. No legislation is needed, nor should there be any. Keep Biden in the box - the American people rightfully blame him for this disaster, which he alone has the power to fix. And if he chooses not to, let him run on it.
Yeah, that LNG retribution is crap, and so is that SCOTUS decision, but so be it. That said, it is hard not to believe Biden is trying, begging, to start a civil war. Perhaps believing he could then claim martial law and really do what the left does best - rule tyrannically with an iron fist. It's why I called it (similar to your "border war") the Battle for the Border:
