Quick Take: The RNC is broke. That could be a good thing.
Perhaps Charlie Brown has stopped playing Lucy's game.
Reportage has it that the RNC is the most broke it’s been in ten years. I can’t understand why - what with Biden and the Democrats on the verge of being pounded in this Fall’s election. (That’s sarcasm, btw) Every election cycle, the RNC comes around to the party faithful banging their tin cup, saying “we just need this much to beat [insert Democrat], take control of the House and win the Senate!” And yet, when Republicans do somehow control the levers of power, we get Obamacare, more wars and spiraling debt.
Democrats (the DNC) use their money to win elections. Republicans (the RNC) use our money to buy candidates they can control. That’s why the RNC pours money into opposition research against Freddie Flamethrower to support Monica Milquetoast in the primaries. If Freddie manages to survive and win the nomination, the RNC has already done all the oppo research for the Dems. And Freddie’s on his own in the general election - no RNC funds for Freddie. When the RNC prevails with Monica, the party base doesn’t turn out for her. Hence, the RNC’s “problem”.
“It’s a revenue problem,” Oscar Brock, a national RNC member from Tennessee, told The Washington Post. “We’re going through the same efforts we always go through to raise money: the same donor meetings, retreats, digital advertising, direct mail. But the return is much lower this year. If you know the answer, I’d love to know it. The staff has managed to tighten down on expenses to keep the party from going into the red.”
I beg to differ. The RNC has an enthusiasm problem - specifically, a Trump problem. The Republican Party has become a party of Trump and Trumpism - a populist message that resonates, because when Trump was president, he actually kept his promises and did those things for us. He fought to win. The RNC - the Establishment GOP, or eGOP - exists to shakedown rich donors who want to buy favorable regulatory policy. They’re not ideologues, they’re blue-blooded, Ivy League elites seeking to swing special favors in “the system”. This is why the RNC fights the Trumpian Freddie Flamethrower - he can’t be trusted to do as he’s told when he gets to Washington. This is why they despise Trump. This is why they don’t have any money.
Seriously, haven’t we been down this road literally dozens of times? The RNC is not the Republican Party. And we’ve all (mostly) come to realize that.
Ronna (Romney) McDaniel chairs the RNC despite having presided over a string of losses and disappointments. I was confident she’d lose her re-election bid following the 2022 debacle, but alas no - the power base in the RNC crushed her opponent. And here we go again.
I’m all for grass-roots movements supporting populist conservative candidates. Engage in the Republican primaries to advance “the most conservative candidate who can win” (as Saint William of Buckley would say). Send your money to the candidate, not the wealthy cabal of losers in DC.
The RNC needs new leadership and a new direction. Being broke might have that critical “focusing effect” they’ve been lacking. But that day is not today.
"If you know the answer, I’d love to know it."
The answer was, get the fck rid of Ronald Romney McDonald and elect Harmeet Dhillon. But no, they don't really want our answers. They just want our money.
100% agree. I will not give a single cent to the RNC. To President Trump and local candidates only.
