Yes, the Iranians are "the Baddies"
And if you're really in to the "Palestinian Struggle" - with a little introspection - you might just recognize that.
We begin with this past week’s Mainstream Montage proclaiming that the Iranians were “surprised” by the inhumanly violent and unconscionable Hamas terror attacks against Israel - according to unnamed US intelligence officials. Of course they were.
I trust “unnamed” US intelligence officials about as far as I can throw Chris Christie, so let’s look at this statement.
First, the statement is equivocal. “We will be looking at additional intelligence in the coming weeks to inform our thinking on this issue, including whether there were at least some within their system that either had a clearer sense of what was coming or even contributed to aspects of the planning,” the official said.
So in other words, our Intel Community doesn’t have direct evidence Iran was directly involved, so the initial takeaway is: they weren’t. That would be the same US intelligence community that was completely surprised by the attack. Didn’t see it coming. No “signals” or “chatter” were noticed. On an attack of this magnitude, that’s either flat out untrue or it points to breathtaking incompetence. Of course it could be both. And just in case, they’ve equivocated such that they can later say “we did know this or that, but were just unsure as to the timing or scale. You know, there’s always some kind of chatter going on in this region - who can keep up with it all!” That “just in case” is for the eventual disclosure by some other nation or a real news source that uncovers the unequivocal link to Iran’s direct involvement. Which is coming, just as sure as tomorrow’s sunrise. The Wall Street Journal put it together on day one - how long until our IC catches up?
Second, the statement is politically convenient. Team Biden’s placating courtship of the Iranian regime has been an overt centerpiece of US policy - up to and including last month’s release of $6 billion in withheld Iranian cash in return for the release of five American hostages. This flies along with a policy of not enforcing sanctions against Iranian oil production, emplaced under the Trump administration. The Iranians, whose target for production in 2018 was just 700,000 bbl/day, has surged to 3.4M bbl/day under Biden. This has created a windfall of cash reserves for the Iranians estimated between 80 and 100 billion dollars. With no strings attached. Biden to the Iranians: drill baby, drill!
Another political convenience is with the attack’s timing on the eve of further Arab-Israeli rapprochement. The Abraham Accords process - begun under the Trump administration - was set to expand further into the Arab world with normalization of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel. This process would further isolate Iran, a fact not lost on the theocratic regime. But that normalization is not happening now - another convenience that Team Biden would like swept under the rug.
And yet another convenience to the IC “early assessment” - it clouds the Biden administration’s failure in the looming issue of Iranian nuclear fuel enrichment , which is full steam ahead.
In a restricted report seen by CNN, the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that uranium particles enriched to 83.7% purity – which is close to the 90% enrichment levels needed to make a nuclear bomb – had been found in Iran’s Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP), an underground nuclear facility located some 20 miles northeast of the city of Qom.
Which presents another black eye for the President’s policies regarding the pariah state. So the Intel Community statement would sure be convenient right now, wouldn’t it? That is, convenient right now, in the current news cycle. Sort of like the signed statement about Hunter’s laptop being Russian disinformation.
Actually I think I can throw Chris Christie farther than I trust this - or really, any - IC assessment.
Third, and most importantly, the statement simply isn’t credible. Let’s start with the obvious. Ever since radical Islamists overthrew the Shah, took American hostages and seized power in 1979 - installing an Islamic Theocratic Republic based on Islamic holy law - Iran has been dedicated to the destruction of Israel, America and the murder of their citizens. The reason we have imposed sanctions - on and off for decades now - is that whenever and however the Iranians get their hands on cash, it ends badly for someone somewhere. Usually in Israel. Iran has been waging a proxy war through Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel for 40 years. Iran provides 93 percent of all Hamas funding.
It’s what they do. Like the scorpion in the fable of the scorpion and the frog.
You see, the Iranian regime are the baddies but lacking the introspection in the famous Mitchell and Webb video.
Wherever your sympathies may lie on the “Palestinian issue”, understand that the real bad actor here is Iran, who treats the Palestinians as disposable pawns to be sacrificed to the destruction of Israel and its citizens - while stoking Israel loathing throughout the Arab world. Israel has no choice - their survival requires self-defense. And Israel’s self-defense now requires they enter Gaza and root out the murderous viper’s nest of homicidal maniacs called Hamas. And who stands to benefit most from the world watching this “retributive” military action? The nation whose sole policy from Day One has been the obliteration of Israel. That’s who.
Of course it was Iran who armed and trained these terrorists. Who else was it? Who else could it have been? Gaza and Lebanon have no military industry - they don’t produce the bombs and rockets and drones and machine guns used in this attack. Gazans are entirely dependent on external charity to simply feed their population. And what country has been caught red-handed, time and again, shipping weapons to these terrorists? Not that it won’t emerge soon, but about the only thing we don’t have on the Iranians is them pushing the “go” button…but is that really necessary?
Isn’t it sufficient to understand that Iran isn’t interested in a peaceful coexistence with Jews - or for that matter, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Rastafarians, agnostics or atheists? Or even Sunni Muslims? While Israel may be their neighborhood focus today, they’re quite clear about the forced conversion to Shiite Islam and what will happen to any culture that stands in their way. This is why the other Arab states justifiably fear and loathe Iran. They’re next.
The Iran government wasn’t formed to promote tolerance or plurality - its stated purpose is Islamic Revolution - the forced conversion of every soul on the planet. The plight of the Palestinian people is just a propagandistic tool they employ against western sensibilities. And sympathetic Jew-hatred unites a pan-Arab coalition. From a western perspective, Iranian theocracy is an alien culture. And they use the Palestinian people to push that culture - and as polling shows, the Palestinians living in Gaza are more than willing to go along with Hamas.
In a hat tip to George Santayana, we have historical illiterates condemning us to relive the holocaust. During World War II there were Nazi sympathizers and apologists while the Nazis were unquestionably the baddies. Once the camps were exposed however, there could be no room for sympathizing with genocidal maniacs. That’s where we should be today with the exposure of Iran - working through Hamas and Hezbollah as bloodthirsty murderers of innocent noncombatants - unarmed, men, women, children, whole families, the elderly and the infirm ruthlessly exterminated.
Our Intelligence Community shouldn’t be providing cover for Iranian culpability, nor should they be screening talking points for the “pro-Palestine” movement, when it’s patently obvious what that movement is all about.
To say today that you “stand with Palestine” and “by any means necessary” - openly celebrating last week’s barbarism - you need some serious introspection. You’re carrying water for the Iranian extinctionists here. A “useful idiot”.
You might also find your views are not that far from the guys with skulls on their hats. And that’s not an ad Hitlerim argument - give it some thought.
A Note: I’ve been AFK (away from keyboard) a while. Honestly my style is to let everybody else “be the first” to file while I consider the bigger picture and tease out the longer term issues and trends. But this past year has been plagued by “Watergate-level” corruption and bombastic stunts on a weekly basis - leaving me with no time for reflection on one monstrosity before the next story breaks. The Hamas murderous rampage, however, has shocked me back into the moment - and for the moment, a return to the keyboard. Hey, I promised you I wouldn’t be spamming you!
Maybe we ought to just move the staff at the WSJ over to Langley Virginia and move the staff at Langley over to the WSJ in Manhattan?
Iran, like the scorpion in the fable, does what it does because that is just its nature. Don’t negotiate with the scorpion nor try to be its friend. If you’re unwilling to kill the scorpion, then isolate it … total complete isolation.
