Voting was never intended to be so simple and easy enough an idiot could do it. Generally required travel to the County Seat to cast ballot on Election Day. A day of travel to, a day of travel from, for many. No matter the existence of the US Postal Service.

Vivek is right, single day voting, voter ID, national holiday. And I suggest dying a voter’s finger as proof of voting and prevention of multiple votes. They do this in other countries.

I know that Puerto Rico recently used to require the finger dipped in ink thing. Not sure if we still do, but sometime within the past decade it was a thing. No reason it can't be required in the States.

It will be an interesting discussion in how and to what extent the federal government can regulate state voting rules. There have to be standards, or limits, else states can institute whatever - 6 months of early voting, or just placing ballots out on street corners in stacks, or online voting.
